B-Day round up… August 21, 2006

So last Thursday was my birthday, but we didn’t really celebrate ’til yesterday.  You know…it’s been a long time since I made my parents take me to the toy-store to buy toys.  😉

Thursday was busy at work (my day job), and no real plans for a birthday dinner or anything.  In fact, by the time I picked up my daughter and got home, my wife was already deeply embroiled in sorting out what state she was setup to take her board in.  (We live in OH, someone thought that meant she would want to take the OK boards.)  As fate would have it…I had a package.  Not just any package, but one that included my first look at some of the Marvel Attacktix figs.  This of course made my day.  The figs look great…I’m guessing these are some of the same everyone else saw at SDCC.  I can’t wait for this to hit the stores.

Friday is non-eventful, Saturday is a trip to the local (Toledo) zoo.

Sunday was nice…my mum wanted to take me shopping since I wear weird sizes for clothes and most things never fit right unless I can try them on…it’s just not worth it to try and buy for me.  (By weird sizes, I just mean I’m somewhere between the normal men’s department and big and tall, it just depends on the cut.  Of course, I like the big and tall because I’m the little guy then.)  After clothes shopping for a bit, mum took me and my daughter to TRU to pick up some Attacktix gear and a little something for the resident horse lover.  Emily now has a very nice little stick horse that has sound effects and everything.  Kids these days, they have it good when it comes to toys, I kid you not.  So here I am, freshly 31 years old…and back to having my mum take me to TRU.  Ah, the more things change, the more they stay the same.  😉  This of course beats what I normally get for birthdays and Christmas, stuff like new socks and electric hedge trimmers.

Nostalgia for the day…I remember being a little tyke…and saving up money for like a month so I could go buy a Transformer I REALLY wanted…Thundercracker I think.  I finally have all of my pennies and dimes saved up, and I begged and pleaded all day and night to be taken to TRU.  Finally, my dad gives in, and we get there just before closing time.  As it turned out, I didn’t have enough money (and it was really mostly loose change) for the tax…so another round of begging and pleading to “borrow” the last few cents to cover the tax.  I really loved having that fig though.  🙂

I bought my first Unearthed Arcana at a TRU. Those were the days.

Happy Birthday.
