MtG Online: RAV League Week 2 wrap up February 14, 2006

Posted by webofwebhead in CCG, Magic the Gathering.

I finished my last couple of league games up last night.  After starting the week strong at 2-0, I finished the week 2-3.  Where did I go wrong this time?

For reference, here’s the decklist I ended the week with:

1 Sundering Vitae
1 Terraformer
1 Terrarion
1 Viashino Fangtail
1 Vigor Mortis

Week one I bridged over to Red for Lightning Helix and the activation on the Screeching Griffin, but with a second Faiths Fetters in Week two, I decided to drop red, despite Galvanic Arc also popping up.  Mind you, red is my favorite color, and Lightning Helix is like the foshizzle in my mind, so dropping it was hard to do.  This deck, as is, wants to apply some pressure early, and mostly rely on removal and/or tricks to clear the road.  Going forward, I can see switching things up a lot, as Green on it’s own is rather weak so far, much better for what it contributes in gold.  If I pull more solid Red or Blue, I can see drifting into a whole new deck, but in reality, my ideal draws at this point would be another Farseek and/or Civic Wayfinder, and then just sneaking in either Red or Blue cards.

With 15, 1 points, I’m in the mid 80’s so far, which means I’m about guaranteed to pull at least a pack, and with a little good work, maybe even move up a bit in the rankings in the latter half of the league.

Either way, I expect to completely rebuild tonight, unless my new pack is so unspectacular as to leave me with no new options.  I think the most fun with league play is that you can tweak constantly between matches, something you can’t do in a draft except during sideboarding.  I’ll let you know how it goes…
