Or, I liked it better when it was Rock of Ages.
I have this theory about music, that most people lock in at a certain age, usually somewhere around high school or college, and whatever they like at that time, is what they like from then on.
And I think maybe that goes for a lot of things, including comics. I can actually put my finger on it for comics…it was the late nineties, with the rebirth of the JLA under Morrison/Porter/Dell and the emergence of the The Authority from Ellis and Hitch. My favorite story of the bunch was Rock of Ages…a true epic featuring an evil league headed by Luthor, the ultimate triumph of Darkseid, and the redemption of the time line. Sound familiar? (more…)

Seems to be a slow week, as I’ve only found one book worth talking about. But that’s fine, it gives me more time to focus on the new Punisher book and highlight some of the allusions made to some well known characters found at the Distinguished Competition.
It’s been written before that The Punisher is sort of the ultimate “What If…?” of Batman…what if the character in question was an adult instead of a child who lost their family to senseless violence? Where Batman reflects a more childlike response…the Punisher is sort of that grown up take…especially that of a war veteran. It’s interesting to see that they are matching up the Punisher now with the Marvel’ized version of Superman…the Sentry. And, let’s not forget, Norman Osborn as a quasi-Lex Luthor circa when he was the President in the DCU like 5 years ago. (more…)

Marvel has unveiled pictures of the new Captain America today. The most striking change is the sidearm he holds prominently…something quite new for the 616 Cap. The top half of the costume is very similar to the original, the bottom half appears to be black though.
A few quick thoughts…the inclusion of the hand gun leads me to believe that Winter Soldier/Bucky could be the new Cap. Another aspect, the way the top part of the costume comes to a point front and back (perhaps like an arrowhead?) leads me to believe it could be Clint Barton/Ronin/Hawkeye. Either way, I’m sure we’ll know in a few months…
