Glossary
Hobby gaming has a litle of it’s own jargon…here I’ll try to clear up some of the acronyms and terms I throw around casually in posts.
- CCG – Collectable/Customizable Card Game…like Magic or Yu-Gi-Oh!.
- TCG – Trading Card Game…interchangeable with CCG. Different companies use different terms.
- WotC – Wizards of the Coast, makers of Magic and Dungeons & Dragons. (Pronounced wat-see)
- D&D – Dungeons & Dragons…long reigning king of the RPGs.
- RPG – Role Playing Game…typically a pen and paper game played out like a story. D&D is the most well known.
- MMORPG – Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game…a computer game like World of Warcraft.
- WoW – Usually World of Warcraft, the universe of the MMORPG, card, and minis games. (Sometimes an acronym of this blog, Web of Webhead.)
- CMG – Collectable Miniatures Game…typically games like HeroClix, pre-painted figures usually in blind boosters. Sometimes called Trading Figure Games, but TFG has not caught on that I have seen as an acronym.
- FFG – Fantasy Flight Games, a game company that makes board games, minis, card games, the works.
- Minis – Miniature Figures. Possibly part of a CMG, or from games like Warhammer 40K.
- UDE – Upper Deck Entertainment, the branch of the company that produces collectable games. They usually go officially by their acronym.
- Wizards – Wizards of the Coast, see WotC
- ‘Clix – HeroClix, a game by WizKids Games, also referring to the similar games HorrorClix and ActionClix.
- WK – WizKids Games, makers of HeroClix. Rumored to be on the verge of moving from Topps to NECA.
