Fantasty versus Reality… August 31, 2006

So…as you know, I have two jobs right now. One job is firmly rooted in reality…IT support for a health-care facility. In that job, I go to meetings, fix copiers, design intranet pages, normal stuff. In the other job…I sit in front of a computer at night and get paid to play games. That’s the kind of thing you dream of when you’re a kid, pure fantasy. (more…)
Dreamblade revisited… August 22, 2006

Dreamblade was far and away the biggest game in terms of “hype” at GenCon. Did it live up to the hype?
I’d say probably so. The money tournament was likely the single biggest event of the convention, reportedly well over 400 players. The demo tables were ALWAYS full (at least on Saturday), from first thing in the morning until 6 o’clock closing time.
The game itself is a unique hybrid of miniatures, traditional board games, and ccgs.

I bring this up not for any sort of political ramification, but only because I find it very interesting that someone decided to re-interpret the 9/11 report in comic book form.

So last Thursday was my birthday, but we didn’t really celebrate ’til yesterday. You know…it’s been a long time since I made my parents take me to the toy-store to buy toys.
Transformers Movie Roll Call August 18, 2006

Without further ado:
Autobots:
Optimus Prime
Bumblebee
Jazz
Ratchet
Ironhide
Decepticons:
Megatron
Starscream
Brawl
Bonecrusher
Barricade
Skorponok
Frenzy
Blackout
Regarding the Decepticons outnumbering the Autobots…the impression is given that the Autobots get to be the underdogs this way. Also, this leaves open a logical place for the army to join the Autobots side to even the odds. – B

ICV2 reports that UltraPro has signed an exclusive deal with Wizards of the Coast/Hasbro to produce licensed and official sleeves for the Magic the Gathering game. Is this the death knell for UltraPro’s competitiors? Does anyone else remember the old day when we didn’t have sleeves?
GenCon 2006 Report August 16, 2006

I’ve been going to comic and gaming cons for a long time, probably the past 18 years or so off and on. Origins has traditionally been my “home” gaming con (it’s in-state for me after all), but this year I was able to hit the grand-daddy of them all, GenCon Indy. Though I spent the weekend in Indy…I hit the con proper Saturday only…following is the whirlwind account of a big day in the gaming “biz”…

So…I’m like a day late already with my GenCon report…but for a good reason! I caught up with the Hasbro Herosape guys (and gal) in the afternoon, then managed to meet up with Matt Forbeck around 5 to hang out and cruise the hall a bit….well, one thing led to another, and well, it turned into GenCon meets Entourage…
Anyway, look for a full report tomorrow… – B
